Guide

Garage roof options after asbestos: steel, tiles or flat?

Once the old roof is off, you choose what goes on. Here are the three most common options.

The same garage with a new deeply corrugated dark grey steel roof

Insulated corrugated steel

Fast to fit, lightweight and durable. Deep profiles look good and shed water well. Insulated sheets reduce condensation.

Tiles

Concrete or slate-effect tiles suit houses with matching roofs but are heavier and need a stronger structure.

Flat roof

Single-ply or fibreglass systems work for small flat garages and extensions. Quality of detailing matters more than the material.

What affects price

Roof area, pitch, insulation, timber repairs, guttering and access.

Which would we choose

For most sectional or brick garages, deeply corrugated insulated steel in grey or anthracite is the practical choice.
